WEDDINGS

Your special day, in your special way

Marrying the person you love is such a special moment, and even more so in a beautiful and historic church!

We work with you to have your special day in your special way, from traditional church organ music or a full choir to using contemporary music of your own. We can even help with church flowers and bells! There is nothing like a traditional English summer wedding in one of our picturesque churches. And it's not as expensive as you may think.

We also have Val, our wedding coordinator, who works alongside our vicar to guide you through your wedding journey from start to finish.

You don't have to regularly worship or be baptised in order to be married in church, and if you have been previously married, you will often find that this isn't a barrier to being married in our churches.

BAPTISMS

The start of a lifelong journey of faith

Choosing to be baptised marks the beginnings of saying YES to God through Jesus, and the start of the lifelong Christian journey for either your little one, or for yourself.

In the Tadcaster Benefice we operate an inclusive baptism policy and welcome all to be baptised across our churches.

Baptism (also known as Christening) is a special time for the whole family, and during the service, the person being newly baptised is anointed with holy oil, has water gently poured over their head three times, and is given a candle to represent the light of Jesus in their life.

You can be baptised at any age, we simply ask that you attend an informal preparation session in order to learn a little bit more about the commitment that you make.

Godparents need to be baptised themselves to fulfil this role but if they are not already baptised this can be done at the same service. You can find some more helpful information by clicking this link: https://www.churchofengland.org/life-events/christenings

FUNERALS

Supporting you through the loss of a loved one

The passing of a loved one can bring a range of feelings and emotions. We are here to listen and offer pastoral support through the difficulties and worries that you may be experiencing.

If you live within the Benefice, please do speak to your funeral director of choice who will work with us to make arrangements.

Our ministers also conduct funerals at local crematoriums for people who live within or have close connection with the Benefice.

If you are finding the loss of a loved one difficult and would like to speak to the vicar, please contact the Benefice administrator who will be able to arrange a telephone call for you.
